Top 4 Website Ingredients To Drive Traffic & Sales (Part 2)

This article is a continuation from the last Business View entry where the most important ingredients of a successful website were discussed. So in case you missed it, feel free to go back and take a look at the last issue.

This month we’ll discuss easy tips that you can use on your own website to raise its ranking in search engines!

#1: Be Easy To Find (continued) – Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

If the only way people can find your website is entering the address they find on your business card, well you’ll have a ton of networking to do and even fewer visits to your website. Today there is a better way to get found called Search Engine Optimization! SEO is a range of techniques that are used to improve your websites ranking in search engine results and can be one of the most useful marketing strategies available today.

As I’m sure you’ve found in your own home, few people u
se the phonebook these days. In fact, 70% of adults “rarely or never” use their phone book while 60% of them use the Internet to find contact information (Harris Interactive Survey 2011).

While I’m sure few find this surprising, the real surprise comes when you hear that some businesses are still paying lots of money advertising in the Yellow Pages. However, for consumers, they would rather pull out their laptop, tablet or smart phone and search for whatever they need at that moment. That is why Search Engine Optimization has arisen as such a useful marketing tool.

So here are some easy to implement tips on how to increase your websites ranking in Search Engines that don’t cost anything and will increase the amount of calls your business receives!

1. First choose your main keywords for your business. Imagine yourself in your potential clients shoes and try to understand what words they would type into a search engine to find your business. They may be things like, “marketing Saskatoon, welding Warman, etc.”

2. Pick yo
ur main keyword for every page and focus on using that word in many places throughout it. Be careful though, if you use this word too many times you run the possibility of the page losing importance, as it will confuse Search Engines. Essentially write for humans first, search engines second.

3. The placement of your primary keywords is also important. Make sure to have your main keywords included in not only your body content but also your headline and sub-headline.

4. Include keywords in images and URL of the website. When you have a picture on your website, make sure the file name has your keyword in it (ex: mykeyword.jpg). Also, it helps if your website address has your keywords in it (ex: www.stealthwd.ca/saskatoon-web-design).

5. Creating links for other web pages to your website. This has been the trump card of getting your website to the top of search engines since the dawn of the Internet and is still one of the most important elements to SEO today.

Search En
gine Optimization (SEO) is a science in itself so it’s difficult to include everything but hopefully these tips will get you started. If you need any assistance with this
please feel free to give me a call and I’ll walk you through it.

Have a great month and be sure to check out next months article where I’ll give you tips on boosting your business with Social Media!

10 Dumb Ideas that Made A Ton of Money

It's been shown through history that people will buy the dumbest things. In today's world of people shelling out their credit cards to buy "Snuggies", "Shake Weights" and "Sham Wow's" the dumb idea business is bigger than ever.

It seems like these idea's are so dumb that they become a novelty, and with enough exposure, good novelties can sell like hot cakes.

On that note, here are some really dumb idea's that made a TON of money. Well, maybe they're not so dumb after all...

1. Pet Rock

One of the most famous dumb idea's that turned out to be brilliant. The concept was simply get a rock, put in a box with hay and sell it for the low price of $4.99.

Who knew such a ridiculous idea would sell millions.

2. Billy the Big Mouth Bass

I'm sure everyone remembers "Billy the Big Mouth Bass". This was a novelty that routinely sold out as people wanted to adorn their cabins and trailers with them.

3. Antenna balls

Who thought Styrofoam balls on your car antenna would be such a money maker? Many businesses gave these away as they were pretty low cost and people loved them.

4. Mood Rings

Everyone remember's these. They're quite ugly but fun as they were supposed to show you your mood. That being said, do you really need a ring to tell you your mood?

5. Tumbleweed Farm

The Prairie Tumbleweed Farm is selling tumbleweeds to places all over the world. Who would of thought people would buy weeds?

6. The Flowbee

A very ridiculous product that was part clipper and part vacuum. It was said to give a "precision haircut" with little mess.

7. Santa Mail

I think this is a simple but brilliant idea. Charge $9.95 to get a reply letter from Santa. It say's they've already done 300,000... with simple math that works out to A LOT OF MONEY.

8. The Million Dollar Home Page

Wow, you could have bought a piece of this blog for only a dollar! Seems like a pretty goofy idea but this 21 year old entrepreneur sold them all... not bad for a one page website.

9. Berlin Wall Pieces

Now this is a great opportunity! For only $55 you can buy a small piece of the Berlin Wall, $80-$150 for a medium piece and only $290 and up for an "Executive Piece". Great deals except for the fact that they could just send you a piece of concrete on a plaque and take your money. But it sounds like he has done pretty good.

10. Doggles

Who would have thought that making glasses for dogs would be such a big money maker? However, I'm not too sure how these people got these on their dogs...

Cheers,

Ryan

Top 10 Unintentionally Hilarious Company Domains

Hey readers,

In our industry we register domain names for websites all the time however, in some cases, when the website name is put together it can have disastrously hilarious results.

For example here are the Top 10 Unintentionally Hilarious Company Domains (list from agylen.com):

1. A site called ‘Who Represents‘ where you can find the name of the agent that represents a celebrity. Their domain name… wait for it… is www.whorepresents.com

2. Experts Exchange, a knowledge base where programmers can exchange advice and views at www.expertsexchange.com

3. Looking for a pen? Look no further than Pen Island at www.penisland.net

4. Need a therapist? Try Therapist Finder at www.therapistfinder.com

5. Then of course, there’s the Italian Power Generator company… www.powergenitalia.com

6. And now, we have the Mole Station Native Nursery, based in New South Wales: www.molestationnursery.com

7. If you’re looking for computer software, there’s always www.ipanywhere.com

8. Welcome to the First Cumming Methodist Church. Their website is www.cummingfirst.com

9. Then, of course, there’s these brainless art designers, and their whacky website: www.speedofart.com

10. Want to holiday in Lake Tahoe? Try their brochure website at www.gotahoe.com

We want to hear what you think... feel free to leave a comment!

Cheers,

Ryan

Hey readers,

So there have been some pretty strange things happening on the Internet ever since it first became popular in the nineties. From funny pictures of Cats to millions spending hours everyday on Facebook there have been huge progressions over the past decade or so.

A few days ago I stumbled upon a very interesting video of a guy named Ze Frank. It was a Ted Talk video where he was doing a speech on some of the latest Internet projects he has been working on. I found them fascinating and I'm sure you will as well.

Here is his Ted Talk where he discusses his latest projects.

Have a great week!
